The timing belt on the 2.7 TDV6 sits at the back of the engine rather than the front, so a belt job isn’t a belt job. The gearbox has to come away from the engine to get at it, and that labour is the same whether the belt has snapped or you’re changing it as a precaution. If it has snapped, the valves have usually met the pistons, and now you’re pricing an engine rather than a belt kit.

Turbocharger failure follows the same pattern. Debris and oil find their way through the system, so the sensible repair is bigger than the turbo itself.
