Sell My Range Rover With Air Suspension Faults

One corner drops overnight and pumps back up by mid-morning, or the whole vehicle is flat on its bump stops with a suspension restricted message on the dash. Maybe you’ve already paid someone to plug in and tell you it’s the compressor, or a valve block letting a corner down while the vehicle stands.

We buy it as it is, at whatever height it has settled to. Nothing needs fixing, diagnosing or converting first, and the valuation is free with no obligation to take it.

What The Repair Actually Costs

These are figures owners are being quoted elsewhere, not our prices. They’re what independents and franchise dealers typically charge to put a Range Rover air suspension system right.

  • Air springs: usually £200 to £350 per side at an independent. Genuine parts, or complete front strut assemblies rather than bags alone, run from £500 to over £1,000.
  • Compressor: £435 to £682 supplied and fitted at an independent. Main dealer compressor kit quotes routinely come in at £1,000 to £1,400 plus VAT.
  • Valve block: £210 to £250 for a single unit fitted. Multi-valve overhauls or genuine parts reach £540 to £800 and beyond, depending on generation.

Done together, which is common once a system has leaked long enough for the compressor to wear itself out keeping up, that’s roughly £900 to £1,500 at an independent specialist on good OEM parts, and £2,000 to £3,500 or more at a franchise dealer on genuine parts. The gap is markup on genuine parts and the hourly labour rate, not a better repair. Where you land inside a range depends on the generation and where the parts come from.

The suspension is rarely the only line on the sheet either. If there’s a gearbox fault, a blocked DPF, limp mode or an MOT failure alongside it, the sum that matters is everything the vehicle needs at once against what it’s worth today. We buy those as well.

Can you drive it, or does it need recovering?

The process runs in four steps. None of them requires you to move the vehicle.

Get a quote: call or email with the model, year, mileage, and the main fault. We'll give you a number without seeing the car.

Accept the offer: no obligation. If the number works for you, we'll book a collection slot.

A corner that has lost its air is resting on the bump stop. Ride height on that side is gone, so camber and toe are out, the headlights point somewhere other than where they were aimed, and the tyre carries the load on one edge instead of its full width. The vehicle leans further through a bend and dips harder under braking, because the spring that normally controls it isn’t doing anything. When the system drops into restricted mode, it’s limiting speed and height for a reason.

None of that is yours to solve. Collection includes recovery and a flatbed for a non-runner at no charge, so the vehicle never has to be driven to us, to a garage or to an MOT station. Suspension and ride height are tested at MOT, and if you’ve decided you’re done spending on it, there’s no reason to present it at all.

Symptoms By Model And Generation

The components are much the same across the range. What changes is the price of the parts and how far things have to come apart to reach them.

  • Range Rover P38: sits down on one corner or all four after standing. Usually the air springs or the valve block, and the decision tends to come down to the age and condition of everything else.
  • Range Rover L322: a corner low in the morning and the compressor running long to bring it back up. Air springs first, then the compressor that has been covering for them.
  • Range Rover L405 and L460: suspension fault messages, access height lost, no adjustment. Compressor, valve block or a height sensor reading wrong. Genuine part prices are where most owners stop.
  • Range Rover Sport L320 and L494: the rear settling overnight, then a warning on the dash. Air springs, valve block or compressor, and often more than one by the time it’s looked at.
  • Discovery 2 to 5: rear only on the earlier vehicles, full air on the later ones. Air springs, compressor, the reservoir and the lines feeding it, and a line can chafe or split anywhere along its run.

Coil Conversions, Diagnostics And The Offer

A coil conversion is a real answer for someone keeping the vehicle. It takes the compressor, the bags and the valve block out of your life for good, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.

What it won’t do is improve the figure. Valuations are worked out against real-time trade values for the vehicle as it stands, not a fixed list with repair receipts added back on. Spend £900 to £1,500 with an independent before you sell and the offer doesn’t move by £900 to £1,500. Same with a diagnosis you’ve already paid for: useful to you, useful to us as information, but not value the next buyer pays for.

If a conversion is already fitted, that’s fine. We still buy it, and overall condition drives the figure.

Selling A Range Rover That Won't Move

Send the registration, postcode, mileage and a description of what the vehicle is doing, and a figure comes back. Free, and no obligation to accept it.

Collection is free anywhere in the country, with recovery or a flatbed for a non-runner at no charge, so a Range Rover down on its bump stops on a driveway or at the kerb is an ordinary job rather than an awkward one. Payment is by bank transfer and it goes through before the vehicle is loaded. The figure quoted is the figure paid, with no reduction at the door and no admin fee.

We complete and submit the V5C transfer section with you at collection. Telling DVLA the vehicle has been sold stays with you as registered keeper, and the quickest route is gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle: about five minutes with the reference number from the V5C, confirmed on screen. Save that confirmation, it’s your proof.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Range Rover drops overnight but sits normally by the afternoon. Is it still worth a quote?

Yes. A system that holds height while it’s being driven and leaks down while it’s parked usually points at a valve block or a bag seeping past a seal. It doesn’t have to be at its worst to be valued. Tell us how it behaves overnight and we’ll price it on that.

Do you take the air suspension repair cost off what you'd pay for my Range Rover?

No. The offer is what the vehicle is worth as it stands with the fault on it, priced against current trade values. We’re not starting from a clean-car figure and subtracting a dealer’s repair estimate, which is the arithmetic most people are braced for.

My Range Rover has already had a coil spring conversion. Will you still buy it?

Yes, and it doesn’t need undoing. What you spent on the kit and the fitting isn’t added to the offer, but the vehicle is valued on its overall condition in the same way as any other.

Does my Range Rover need an MOT or working suspension before you'll collect it?

No to both. There’s no need for a valid MOT and no need for the vehicle to be driveable or sitting at the right height. It can be on SORN, on a driveway, at the kerb or at the garage that quoted you. It gets loaded as it sits.

Do you collect a Range Rover with air suspension faults from outside Kent?

Yes. We're based in Kent and we collect nationwide, with our own transporters and our own drivers. The distance doesn't come off your figure and there's no fuel surcharge afterwards. The quote is the number you receive.

Based In Kent, Collecting Nationwide

We’re a Land Rover and Range Rover specialist based in Kent, and we collect nationwide. There’s no yard, depot or engineer anywhere else and we won’t pretend there is. The transporter is ours, the driver is ours, and the distance costs you nothing.

A Range Rover with an air suspension fault isn’t scrap weight to us. Where condition allows, these are repaired and resold rather than broken for parts, and our sister company in Kent, Medway Vehicle Services, handles Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar diagnostics and repairs, so the fault goes to people who see it weekly. We buy Land Rover and Range Rover only.
